My Philosophy of Doula Care

Pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period are not one-size-fits-all experiences and your care shouldn't be either!
As a doula, my work is grounded in four core values: harm reduction, collaboration, holistic care, and evidence-based support. These ideas shape how I show up for my clients in every moment of support.
Harm Reduction: Supporting You Without Judgment
I believe you deserve care that meets you exactly where you are, not where anyone thinks you should be.
Harm reduction is about recognizing that every person’s situation is unique. You might be navigating substance use, mental health challenges, medical complexities, or simply making choices that don’t fit into mainstream expectations. Whatever your circumstances, my role is not to judge you, it’s to support you.
I focus on helping you reduce risk, increase safety, and access clear, compassionate information so you can make decisions that feel right for you. You deserve respectful, nonjudgmental care.
Collaboration: Centering Your Voice
My goal is to walk alongside you on your perinatal journey, not to lead you. Birth and postpartum care often involve a team, and I work to support collaboration between you, your medical providers, your partner, and anyone else you want involved. I aim to help create an environment where your voice stays at the center.
This can look like:
Helping you clarify your preferences and priorities
Supporting open communication with your care providers
Encouraging your partner or support person so they feel confident and connected
Holding space for your questions, concerns, and instincts
You are the expert on your own body, pregnancy and life. I’m here to support that.
Holistic Care: Seeing the Whole You
You are more than a body going through pregnancy and birth. You are a whole person and I care for you that way.
My approach to doula work considers your emotional, physical, cultural, and social needs. Sometimes that means offering comfort measures during labor, like breathwork, movement, or grounding techniques. Other times it means slowing down and really listening to what’s on your mind.
I also pay attention to your environment so we can create a space that feels calm, safe, and supportive. This applies whether you’re giving birth in a hospital, at home, or elsewhere. Your entire experience matters and not just the outcome!
Evidence-Based Support: Information You Can Trust
There’s a lot of information and misinformation out there, and it can be super overwhelming to navigate. I’m committed to helping you make sense of it.
I offer support grounded in current, evidence-based information so you can understand your options clearly. That includes talking through the benefits, risks, and alternatives of different choices, and helping you feel confident in both informed consent and informed refusal.
I won’t tell you what to do. I will make sure you have the information and space you need to decide for yourself.
Where It All Comes Together
When I bring these values together my goal is simple:
To help you feel safe.To help you feel informed. To help you feel supported in your choices.
Whether your journey is straightforward or complex, carefully planned or full of unexpected turns, I’m here to meet you in it with care that is steady, respectful, and responsive.
